There are many ways you can configure email forwarding in Exchange Online. You can configure email forwarding of a mailbox using Transport Rule, enabling forwarding setting in mailbox properties and user can also setup email forwarding from OWA or Outlook Inbox rule. You can also configure email forwarding in Exchange Online using modern Exchange Admin Center. This article shows steps to configure email forwarding in Microsoft 365 as admin using Classic Exchange Admin Center.
Configure Email Forwarding in Microsoft 365 as Admin
Step 1. Login to Microsoft 365 Admin portal and go to Classic Exchange Admin Center.
Step 2. Select recipients on the features pane on the left and click on mailbox tab. Open properties of user whose email needs to be forwarded to another user by double-clicking the user account. User properties will open as shown above. Click mailbox features, scroll down and click View details under Delivery Options which is under Mail Flow option.
Step 3. Delivery options page will open as shown above. Check Enable forwarding option. Check deliver message to both forwarding address and mailbox option. If you don’t want the email to be forwarded to the user then you can leave it unchecked.
Step 4. Click Browse and search the user where the email will be forwarded to. Select the user and click OK. In this example John Doe. Note: – You can not select multiple users if you want the email to be forwarded to multiple users at the same time. In such scenario you will have to create distribution group, add multiple recipients to the distribution group and then select distribution group in this option.
Step 5. Click OK and click save again.
In this way you can configure email forwarding in Microsoft 365 as Admin.
